The school day

School starts at 8.40am and the doors will be open from 8.40am. Learning starts straight away, so it's very important to be punctual. Children can feel quite upset when they arrive to school late so please help them to have a good start to their day. Breakfast club is available for Reception children from 8.15am, where they can take part in some activities and have some breakfast before school.

The children have their lunch at 11am and go home at 3.15pm. You can collect your child from 3.10pm to help you get to any other classes to pick up your other children. Children must be picked up by someone known to the staff and named on the contact form. If this is going to be different you must let the school office know in advance or we will not be able to let your child go home until we have permission from you.

Good attendance is 96% or above. It's very important to bring your child to school every day so they do not miss any learning. More information about attendance can be found here

Reading in Reception

Our class author is Chloe Perkins. This year the pupils in Reception will be reading a number of diverse fairy tales written by Chloe. Here are some below..

This half term, our quality texts are...

The Very Hungry Caterpillar – My Small World Toy StoreThe Little Red Hen: Ladybird First Favourite Tales: Amazon.co ...

Reading is such an important part of your child's learning and we want children to love books and stories and enjoy sharing them with you at home. As well as learning to read themselves, it's just as important for them to hear other people read. Here is a link to the BookTrust website where you will find stories that can be read aloud for you or links to videos. You can also read the stories to your child yourself here too. We also use Collins E-books and assign the guided reading books read in class for you to share at home.

School uniform

Children in Reception wear our school uniform and it helps them to feel part of the school community. Please make sure you label all items of clothing with your child's name to help them look after their own clothes. The images below show examples of our uniform and you can buy our jumpers and cardigans here.

For the full uniform policy please go to the Parent section of the website and look for the subheading School Uniform.

Snacks

In reception children can bring a range of healthy snacks to school these include;
- Fruit
- Dried fruit
- Vegetables e.g. carrot sticks
- Tube yogurts
- Crackers
- Yogurt covered fruit e.g. raisins
- Cheese e.g. cheese-strings
You do not need to send your child to school with a water bottle as cups and fresh water is provided throughout the day within the classroom that the children can help themselves to. We will also provide a milk and a healthy snack in the afternoon that we share together this is an integral part of learning about new food and keeping healthy.

Trips and Visitors

 Autumn

We will have lots of visitors in school to talk to us about who can help us. We will also see the Pantomime in Autumn 2.

Spring

We will have our very own eggs to hatch this half term and a trip to the farm.

Summer

We will have a visit from the Creepy Crawley Show!

 Vocabulary

Please see our vocabulary pyramid and key vocabulary mat for this terms theme.

Phonics

We follow the Little Wandle scheme for phonics and there is a useful parent section on the website that will give you all the information about which sounds we learn each half term, the tricky words, pronunciations and blending strategies. Please take a look...

Maths

This half term we will be learning to match and compare, create and identify patterns and will revisit our knowledge of shapes.  For more information about the White Rose Maths scheme we use at Freehold please click the link below...

Homework

Your child will bring their homework bag home every Friday and this will have a decodable book at their reading level, that they should be able to read with a little help and a story book they have chosen to share with you. We will also be sending some tricky words to practice along with some words to look at that will appear in the following week's guided reading book. We will be inviting parents into school for a reading and phonics workshop this half term, where you can pick up some tips on how to support your child to read and where you can ask any questions about other ways to help them at home. We will inform you of the dates closer to the time.
