Regular school attendance is an important part of giving children the best possible start in life. Students who miss school frequently can fall behind with their learning and their wellbeing and wider development can also suffer. Good attendance is 96% or above.
As a parent, you are legally responsible for making sure your child gets a suitable full-time education. This will mean making sure your child is in school every day except when:
-
Your child is too ill to go to school.
-
You have permission for a leave of absence from your child’s school for them not to attend.
-
Your religious body has a day especially for religious observance
You must contact school as early as possible on the first day of absence and inform school of the reason why. Please read the Working together to Improve attendance document below for procedures around reporting absences.
Punctuality
Being on time for school is an important life skill for your child's future and is crucial for learning and wellbeing. The following image shows the impact being late can have on your child.
Policy and information
Our Focus Trust Attendance Policy clearly states the responsibilities we all have for children's attendance.
