Reading for Pleasure

Encouraging children to read for pleasure is a high priority at Freehold Academy. We will be holding various activities throughout the year to promote a love of reading. These include:

  • Daily story time where children can relax and enjoy listening to a story at the end of each day.
  • Read with me sessions every morning from 8:30am. Join your child in the library to share a story together (see our read with me page for more details).
  • Reading challenges.
  • Adopt a reading buddy. One child from Year 1 and Year 2 will be chosen to take a special reading teddy home for the weekend with a special book to share.
  • Creating our own stories and books using our amazing imaginations and acting them out.
  • Reading workshops.

Listening to and even watching stories is just as important as reading itself. At Freehold we strongly believe that developing imagination is fundamental to developing children reading skills.

‘We are the UK’s largest reading charity and reach 3.9 million children each year with books, resources and support to help develop a love of reading.’
