Year 6 Sapphire

Year 6 Sapphire

Welcome to Year 6!

We hope you have had an enjoyable break and excited for the new school year and all the exciting things we will be doing!

Here you will find information about what we have been doing recently in class. We hope that you enjoy looking at our learning and the fun activities that we have been involved in.

Class Teacher: Miss Oddy

Support Staff: Miss Ghafoor and Miss Smith

PE: PE day is Monday morning, please come into school in your PE kit. Bring your uniform in a bag to get changed into at break.

Homework: Every Friday your child will receive their homework bag, which will contain an ‘Arithmetic SATs Buster’ book. Inside their homework bag will be instructions on which pages to complete in order to support them with their weekly maths lessons. The instructions will also contain weekly spellings that they need to learn for the following Fridays spelling test, please help your child practice these regularly. This year it is an expectation that your child reads at home regularly and as a result their reading records are completed every time they read at home. Their reading records will be checked when returned to school on Friday and children will receive certificates for their efforts. Homework bags should be returned the following Friday containing the SATs buster books, evidence of spelling practice and their reading records.

Topic: Our topic next half term is “World War 2.” Our learning challenge question is.. ‘How did the War affect different people?’ Throughout this topic we will explore the different people affected by the war from soldiers to children in order to understand what living during a war was really like!

Quality text: ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas’ This text was chosen in order to support and enhance children’s learning around World War 2.

Science: Our Science topic this term is Light. We will be doing lots of experiments linked to light and investigating where it comes from.
