Class Teacher – Mrs Wyatt
Teaching Assistant – Miss Henshaw and Miss Mills
Welcome back to the new academic year! We can’t wait to hear all about what you’ve been up to over the summer holidays…but first here is some important information you will need to know for the upcoming year –
The Year Ahead
Our PE day is Monday so please ensure that your child’s P.E kit is in school on that day. Your child will need the following items in their P.E kit:
It is an expectation that your child wears only the above items of clothing for P.E. Football kits and trainers are not acceptable.
A book will be sent home with your child each week. We ask that you try to read this book with your child each night to help improve their fluency and understanding and a reading record will be sent home alongside this for parents/carers to comment in. Every Friday, your child’s book will be swapped ready for the following week.
After October half term, your child will receive weekly spellings to practice and learn at home. Every Friday, there will be a spelling test in class, which will test the children on the words given that week. These spellings are taken from the Year 1 National Curriculum and so it is very important for your child to know them.
Each half term, your child will receive 6 creative challenges relating to the topic that we will be learning about in class at that time. For each challenge completed, your child will receive a dojo point and if they successfully complete all 6, they will receive a prize! Whilst we encourage parents, siblings etc. to help with homework, we do expect the children to complete it themselves! There is no specific time limit for this piece of homework, just as long as it is completed by the end of each half term, the children will be entitled to their relevant reward!
Our learning – Autumn 2
This half term, our class challenge question is “Where would Bog Baby like to visit?”
Within this topic, we will be broadening our knowledge of the United Kingdom by identifying the different types of localities within it such as villages, towns and cities and how these areas are similar and different to one another. We will also be learning the names of various towns and cities within the UK.
In English and Reading, we will be looking at two key texts:
Our unexpected visitor!!
Our local walk!
On Tuesday, we went for a walk around our local area. We saw lots of door numbers, street signs and different types of houses. Lots of us even saw the house that we live in! We saw shops, a church, a pharmacy and a doctor’s surgery.
